1. WHAT IS IT?
In some situations it is necessary to add bone to your upper jaw in your premolar and molar region. This is often referred to as a sinus lift. The bone is added by gently raising the floor of the sinus and placing some bone here to allow enough height for an implant to be eventually placed.
Sinus lifts have become common during the last 15 years as more people get dental implants to replace missing teeth.
The need for a sinus lift can be assessed with the help of an xray or a 3D CBT scan.
2. WHY IS A SINUS LIFT NEEDED?
A sinus lift is required when there is not enough height of the bone in the premolar/molar region of the upper jaw. This is often a result to one or more of the following reasons:
