What is a Dental Implant
1. LONG LASTING AND DURABLE IMPLANTS
–
Almost all dental implants in use today are made from titanium or titanium alloy, materials that have been shown over many years to be well tolerated by bone.
Titanium is used due to the following characteristics:
2. DENTAL IMPLANT SYSTEMS
–
There are many different implant systems available on the market. Here at Dental we provide our patients with two options for Dental implants we have our mid range system Implantium and our premium range Dentsply Implants (Astra Tech Implants). Both these systems provide implants made of titatium and no alloys are used in either system.
In essence a dental implant is the closest substitue to a natural root as possible. Implants are placed in the jaw bone with precision and care with the help of diagnostic aids such as X rays, 3D CBT scans and surgical placement guides.
The main aim is to achieve ‘osseointergration’ this is when the implant ‘knits’ to your own bone. This provides stability and strength to the implant. Once the implant has intergrated an abutment is placed to support the overlying bespoke crown, bridge or denture with is then made to match.
