What are dental implantsin Manchester?

If you have a missing tooth or a broken tooth, it can destroy your confidence. You might have difficulty eating and avoid smiling.

Talking, eating, laughing, and kissing are all affected by tooth loss.

Dental implants permanently replace a missing tooth or missing teeth. With dental implants, you can eat your favourite foods, laugh, and smile with confidence.

Dental implants are made up of 3 parts. The dental implant itself is made of titanium. It acts as your new tooth root and is embedded into your gum. The abutment is attached to the dental implant and connects the final piece which is the crown or new tooth and is visible when you smile.

There are several different types of dental implants:

  • A single dental implant is used to replace a single missing tooth
  • Multiple dental implants uses a bridge to support several new teeth
  • All-on-4 dental implants uses just 4 dental implants to either the upper or lower jaw to replace teeth
  • An implant-retained denture allows dentures to be clipped into place to make them more stable

We’ve treated thousands of patients from Salford Quays, Salford, Trafford and throughout Manchester for dental implants.

What is the process for dental implants in Salford Quays?

The process for dental implants varies slightly according to which type of dental implants you are having but the steps are broadly the same:

Free consultation:
At your free consultation we will listen to your concerns about your teeth and talk you through the options for dental implants. We will examine your teeth, mouth and gums and may take X-rays and scans at this time. If you decide to go ahead with the treatment, we will formulate a bespoke treatment plan for you.

Dental implant surgery:
You will arrive at YOR Dental in Salford Quays on the day of your dental implant surgery where we will put you at ease. We will give you a local aesthetic to numb your mouth.

The titanium dental implants will then be gently inserted into your gums, and you will then be fitted with a temporary crown so that you can leave the surgery without any gaps in your mouth.

Healing period:
Your mouth and gums may feel sore for a few days, and you can manage this with paracetamol. We need to allow between 2 and 6 months for your new dental implants to fuse with your jawbone and this stage is vital to ensure the success of your dental implants. During this phase, we will create your bespoke bridge and / or your custom-made crowns.

Fitting of your restoration:
Once your healing period is over, we will invite you back to the dental surgery in Salford Quays to have your bespoke crown and bridge (if you had multiple dental implants) fitted. Your dental implant surgery process is now complete, and you can show off your new smile to the world!

Maintenance:
It is important that you care for your dental implants and maintain a good oral hygiene. We will give you tips on how to best do this so that you can ensure the success of your dental implants and prolong their longevity too.

Frequently Asked Questions about Dental Implants

Can anyone have dental implants?

During the procedure itself, you will be given a local anaesthetic so that you can not feel any pain. Many patients say that it feels less painful than having a tooth removed.
After the dental implant surgery and once the anaesthetic has worn off, your mouth may feel sore. You may want to eat soft foods for a couple of days, and you can take paracetamol to manage any pain. Most patients report that they are back to work and their daily routines within a day or two.

How long last does the dental implant process take?

This will vary according to how many dental implants you are having and the health of your teeth and gums. On average, for a single dental implant, it will take about an hour to place the implant into your jawbone. A healing period of about 3-6 months is needed before we can attach the final bespoke crown. You will be given a temporary crown in the interim so that you do not have a gap in your mouth.
