Dentures in Manchester

What are dentures in Manchester?

Dentures are made up of an acrylic or metal plate which sits in your mouth and contains false teeth. The plate is removed every night to allow the prosthetic teeth to be cleaned.

Patients from Salford, Trafford, Salford Quays and throughout Manchester choose dentures because they are the most cost-effective option to replace missing teeth.

Dentures, unlike dental implants, are not a permanent solution to replace missing teeth. They will need to be replaced after several years of wearing.

At YOR Dental we offer 3 types of dentures:

Complete dentures: If you are missing all of your teeth, then complete dentures are for you. An entire set of false teeth are attached to an acrylic plate that sits over the top of your gums.

Partial dentures: If you have a single missing tooth or a few missing teeth, you can opt for partial dentures. New prosthetic teeth are attached to the acrylic plate which is then placed over the top of your gums.

Overdenture: An overdenture or implant supported denture uses dental implants to support a set of dentures. It means that your dentures won’t slip or become uncomfortable, instead they are held in place by the dental implants.

What is the process for Dentures At Yor Dental

1. Free consultation

At your free consultation in Salford Quays, we will talk about your options for missing teeth as well as discussing the different types of dentures. We will examine your teeth and gums and take x-rays and scans of your mouth.

2. Create your bespoke dentures

Using the images of your mouth, we will create your bespoke dentures at our dental laboratory.

If you have chosen implant based dentures, we will carry out the dental implant surgery at a separate appointment and your gums will need time to heal before fitting your dentures.

3. Fitting of your dentures

Once your dentures are ready, we will invite you back to the dental surgery in Salford Quays to fit your dentures. We will show you how to put them into your mouth and take them out so that they can be cleaned every evening.

4. Maintenance

It’s important that you look after your dentures as part of your daily oral hygiene. You should remove your dentures (unless you have chosen the implant based dentures) every night to allow your gums a chance to rest and to clean and soak your dentures overnight.

Frequently Asked Questions about Dentures

How long do dentures last for?

Partial dentures last a bit longer of around 15 years and implant supported dentures will last longer still. After this time, you may find that your dentures are slipping in your mouth and are uncomfortable to wear. They will need adjusting or you may need to be re-fitted for new dentures.

Can anyone wear dentures?

Most adults with missing teeth can wear dentures and contrary to what many people think, they are not just for elderly people. It is very rare that adults with missing teeth are not suitable for dentures.

What does it feel like to have dentures?

It may feel odd at first after having dentures fitted. You may find that your speech is affected, or you have more saliva in your mouth. You should cut your food up into small pieces to begin with whilst you adjust to wearing dentures. Avoid eating hard foods whilst the gums adjust to having the dentures on top of them. Chew slowly and use both sides of your mouth to keep your dentures balanced. After a short time, you will get used to wearing dentures.
